Lady Gaga is ready to embrace her most personal role yet: motherhood. In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, the 39-year-old singer, actress, and creative force revealed that while she is exploring numerous entertainment projects, becoming a mom tops her list of priorities.

“I would like to do many things, yeah, all of these things,” Gaga said when asked about potential future projects, including a possible Broadway debut. “But, what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope.”

A Partnership Both Personal and Creative

Gaga has been working closely with her fiancé, entrepreneur Michael Polansky, not only in life but also creatively. Polansky played an instrumental role in shaping the singer’s recent albums, Harlequin and Mayhem, helping guide her musical instincts and adapt classic songs for modern audiences.

“He always really saw me, and I think I always really saw him,” Gaga told Colbert, reflecting on their relationship. “He’s just incredibly brilliant and sweet and kind, and he just fights for me every day. I felt for a long time like I was navigating this thing on my own, and it’s not anymore. I’m very lucky.”

The pair met in 2019 through Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta, who immediately saw the connection. Since then, Polansky has been a steadfast partner, supporting Gaga through both her personal and professional milestones.

Musical Evolution and Creative Risks

Gaga also discussed how Polansky contributed to her recent projects. For Harlequin, a jazz cover album accompanying Joker: Folie à Deux, the duo transformed nearly century-old songs to fit the narrative of her character, Harley Quinn. Gaga described the process as a collaborative exploration of defiance, complexity, and empowerment.

“The most daring is on Shirley Bassey’s ‘The Joker.’ Michael and I wanted to show the defiance of Lee proclaiming that she is the real criminal in all of this,” Gaga explained, referencing her role in the 2024 film. “Creating her had a deeply profound effect on me, and Michael got to know Lee pretty well. That’s why we conceived this project together.”

Her most recent solo album, Mayhem, released in March, also features tracks inspired by her engagement to Polansky, including “Blade of Grass.” Gaga continues to connect with fans on her Mayhem Ball tour, while exploring acting and directing opportunities, such as her guest role on Wednesday season 2 and directing the music video for her Wednesday-inspired single, “The Dead Dance.”

Balancing Fame, Art, and Family

Despite her global stardom and ambitious career, Gaga’s focus is turning toward family. Her announcement underscores a shift in priorities, highlighting that even the most celebrated artists embrace the universal desire for love, connection, and parenthood.

“What I really want is to be a mom,” she reiterated. “That’s my next starring role.”
