The rapper defends her husband Kenneth Petty in a heated social media showdown that draws in Dez Bryant, Jay-Z, and a swirl of past controversies.
In one of the most explosive celebrity feuds of the year, Nicki Minaj has stirred up a social media storm by offering former NFL star Dez Bryant $10 million to fight her husband, Kenneth Petty. What began as a sports contract dispute quickly spiraled into a deeply personal war of words involving music icons, NFL owners, and a trail of old wounds.
The drama was sparked by Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, who reportedly requested a trade last week amid contentious contract negotiations. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones responded by referencing rapper-turned-sports agent Jay-Z and his Roc Nation Sports agency, which represented Bryant during his 2015 contract talks. Jones claimed that Jay-Z wouldn’t return his calls, suggesting Bryant was poorly managed at the time. Both Jay-Z and Bryant denied the accusations, saying their calls had been ignored instead.
That’s when Nicki Minaj jumped in.
The Grammy-nominated artist, who’s been locked in a simmering public feud with Jay-Z, used the moment to defend herself and her family. Minaj has previously accused Jay-Z and his former company, Tidal, of withholding payments and sabotaging her career.
As the online firestorm grew, Bryant warned Jones about revisiting the past and said he was ready for “story time.” Minaj shot back with a warning of her own, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
“How about we play a game? Every time you do a ‘Jerry Jones’ or ‘NFL’ story time, I’ll do a ‘story time’ of my own.”

At first, Bryant claimed to be a fan of Minaj—but the conversation quickly devolved. She brought up Bryant’s 2012 arrest for misdemeanor domestic violence against his mother, a charge that was later dismissed. Bryant hit back, referencing Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, who was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 and served prison time. More recently, Petty faced legal trouble for failing to register as a sex offender after moving to California and for threatening fellow rapper Offset.
Minaj escalated the exchange with a staggering offer:
“I’m so happy you brought this up,” she told Bryant. “I’ll give you 10 million in cash if you’d come & fight him since you BEAT UR OWN MOM.”
The online battle eventually cooled down when Bryant publicly apologized on Monday, writing:
“I let the devil win that time.“
This highly public clash has once again blurred the lines between entertainment, sports, and personal lives, demonstrating the volatile nature of celebrity discourse in the digital age. Minaj’s fiery defense of her husband and challenge to Bryant, laced with past traumas and public records, reflects the emotional weight artists often carry online. Whether or not a $10 million showdown ever materializes, one thing’s clear: the internet is still very much watching.
